A Colorado teen accused of killing his stepfather now faces first-degreee murder charges after he confessed to murdering him and posting his last breaths on Snapchat.
According to the Denver Post, Lemar Owensby was suffered multiple stab wounds to his neck, back and chest at the hands of his stepson, Nickolas Vinson, 19, Friday (Dec. 15). He did not survive the attack.
The teen then shared a video on Snapchat bragging about the killing. His mother Celena Vinson’s terrifying screams are heard in the background as he boasts about taking his stepfather’s life. Owensby raised Vinson and his brother Kyle, 15, in the 14 years he and the boys’ mother were together.
“Hey guys I just killed him. I just killed him. I just killed him,” Vinson is heard saying proudly. “Lemar, can you hear me? Can you hear me? No!,” his mother screamed. When asked what caused the incident, Vinson told police he “wanted to throw him out of the house.”
Text messages between the two reveal they hadn’t been seeing eye to eye for some time, with Owensby asking Vinson to keep up with his chores and contribute to the household. Once threats were made, the conflict escalated, and the two decided to have a fight fight. That Friday, Celena pleaded with them to talk out their differences but her son refused. The teen then lured his stepfather into striking him. Right before Owensby swung, Vinson brandished a 7-inch blade with a handle modeled after brass knuckles and stabbed between seven and nine times.
When police arrived, Vinson was leaving the residence. Reports say he wanted to say goodbye to his friends and that he would be “going away for a long time.” As he stepped out of the car, police noticed the teen drenched in blood.
Vinson is currently being held without bond at the Arapahoe County Jail and his first court appearance was on Friday (Dec. 22).
